Friedman Properties' development of the Goodman Theatre Center is credited with anchoring the City's successful effort to revitalize Chicago's downtown theatre district. Home to the Tony award-winning Goodman Theater Company, the Center also a houses the Theatre District Business Center, a high-tech, shared office facility with private suites located within blocks of Chicago's major government offices and a variety of downtown destinations.
The Goodman Theatre Company is joined by restaurant tenants Corner Bakery Café, a favorite lunch spot for downtown workers, and Petterino's, a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant specializing in American Classic cuisine. Named after Arturo Petterino, the longtime maitre d' of Chicago's storied Pump Room, the restaurant pays homage to Chicago's legendary luminaries and is a must-have reservation to kick off the nightly theater scene.
The Theatre Center itself is a star in its own right. Highly praised for its architectural and technological ingenuity, the building's Randolph Street façade features sleek, glass walls which serve as a modern counterpoint to the sensitively restored facades of the Harris and Selwyn theaters. Each night, 240 computer-controlled light fixtures set the building aglow in a dynamic wash of patterns and colors. This dramatic light show transforms the building into a moving sculpture and serves as a fitting metaphor for Chicago's reborn theater district.
