The Shops of Northfield Village Square, was built in 1960, and originally named, "Canaille Square". Friedman Properties, Ltd. acquired the property in 1980, and completely renovated the 45,000 square foot neighborhood mixed-use center. Located directly west of the Edens Expressway, the center is accessible off of Happ Road, just South of Willow Road in downtown Northfield. Northfield Village Square is a mixed-use property containing a handful of residential rental apartments off of Orchard Lane to the North and behind the center off of Mount Pleasant to the South.

The center has again undergone an extensive renovation and modernization in 2000. It is home to a mix of several very unique, owner-operated merchants such as Peachtree Place and the Three Tarts Bakery. Most recently, the opening of The Happ Inn, a restaurant serving contemporary cuisine, under the guidance of executive chef Carlos Nieto. By attracting local merchants dedicated to the community,  the center reflects the character and quality of this prestigious North Shore Community.
