26-30 West Hubbard Street
The five-story brick structure at 26-30 W. Hubbard has been transformed several times throughout its history. It was constructed in 1891 as a three-story warehouse by William and Rosa Elting. Then, in 1908, William H. Payne added two stories, the height it is today. The exterior shows a brick corbelling just above the third floor windows, marking the top of the original building before the addition. This design feature was repeated at the roof line when the additional stories were added to create consistency between to the structures. Most recently, the building was given a distinctive classical entry when it was converted to commercial office loft space.
